Jeremy Combs

Unpredictable and eccentric, Combs tests the limits of everyone's patience, even as he wrestles to navigate the labyrinth of his own mind. But in order to save the man, Combs must first rescue his inner child.

Viola Jackson

The beautiful Viola Jackson shares an unexpected connection with Combs: the Reinbue Towers. Although much of her background remains shrouded in mystery, he is nevertheless intrigued by her unreserved nature, frank honesty, and warmth of spirit. The two find themselves inexplicably drawn to the towers, as well as to each other, intertwining past tragedies and future dreams.

Dr. Drew Kenson

A former army surgeon and war veteran, Drew Kenson is on the verge of retirement when a soon-to-be prosecuted colleague pleads with him to acquire the case of the mentally unstable Combs. Kenson agrees, only to watch his entire world spin out of control. Can the good doctor perform one last heroic deed before going quietly into the night?

Bartholomew Radcliffe

At times, the formidable Bartholomew Radcliffe seems to be nothing more than a figment of Combs' imagination. It doesn't help that Combs refuses to speak of him outright, eluding to this shadowy nemesis only in times of rare lucidity. Even so, Radcliffe's dogged determination fosters several indirect skirmishes and ultimately leads to a final confrontation.

Harry Trusdale

The prominent Lordabad businessman, Harry Trusdale, invites long-time acquaintance, Dr. Drew Kenson, to his sprawling, countryside estate for an extended stay. But Kenson only agrees on the prerequisite that his ailing patient accompanies him for rest and recuperation. Before long, Hamden Estate winds up in the crosshairs of an epic showdown and Trusdale finds his friendship tested in ways never before anticipated.

Inspector Wayne Dunberry

Inspector Dunberry's reputation of never having lost a case fuels his obsession with solving the mysterious and untimely death of the Lady Doris Overton. He sets his sights on Combs after both he and Kenson are implicated by means of a shared train to Reinbue.
